Our story

A family farm that learned to keep its guests.

Nyakamenta began as thirty-eight hectares of red highland soil above the Kashari valley — coffee on the slopes, forest along the streams. For years we simply grew and sold the cherry. Then visitors started asking to stay.

"We never set out to build a lodge. We set out to share a hillside — the harvest, the fire, the first cup of the morning."

Today the estate is both a working farm and a small highland lodge. Everything our guests taste — the coffee, the honey, the eggs, the greens — comes from within a short walk of the bed they wake in.

Our coffee

Three rows, three cups.

Grown between 1,400 and 1,700 metres, hand-picked in two seasons, and dried on raised beds in the estate yard. We roast in small batches for the lodge and for our subscribers abroad.

Sustainability

Shade-grown, spring-fed, locally kept.

We farm under native shade trees, compost the pulp back into the rows, and protect the stream forest that feeds the valley. Nearly everyone who works here lives within walking distance — and shares in the harvest.
